How we became involved in the Bay to Birdwood.
Living back in the UK, we were visited by Kingsley Newman who has a long history with the B2B. We both ran AC cars and Kingsley came to collect some parts and view a car. He brought along a video of the B2B and from that moment, it became our ambition to take part in the event. So when we came to live here in Ardrossan, back in 2002, it was a matter of getting a suitable car or two or more....
We had joined the local car club, MAPS - the Maitland Auto Preservation Society, plus the Alvis Club of Victoria. Our first Alvis car was wreck that needed a huge sum spent on it, so an MGB was bought to allow us to take part in events. Then came along the TA21 convertible, purchased in Victoria.
This was later joined by an Alvis TD21 saloon that was shipped from the UK.
About our cars;
Our favourite is the 1951 Alvis TA21 convertible which is a regular entrant in the B2B run.
The later cars which qualify for the B2B Classic are the 1964 Alvis TD21 saloon which was imported from the UK in 2004. Originally in maroon, a lengthy and costly makeover sees it now sporting wire wheels and finished in a light metallic blue. Five speed ZF gearbox and disc brakes. Nice touring car, used on two Federation Tours.

Latest addition is a 1966 Bristol 409, powered by a Canadian built 318cu in Chrysler unit. Only 74 of this model made.
Top speed of around 130mph - no, I have not tried it! Drive it steadily and it will give 18-20 mpg.
Alloy body panels, huge boot and nice ride make it a comfortable car, although power steering as fitted to later models would be nice.

We sold our original MGB, but got withdrawal symptoms, so another 1973 was bought this year. However, I'd like an MGA!

Living on the Yorke Peninsula, we are used to travelling fair distances to take part in events. I am now the secretary of MAPS and you'll see us and our cars at many events, often joined by our dog, Molly, an avid old car fan.

Only in Australia could you have an event such as the B2B- welcomed by the people and authorities.
